About the Artist

Hi lovely! This is flO.

Welcome to Fusion Spark! I am the creative behind everything you see here.

I draw cartoon to share stories and create products. Every piece you see here has a little story behind. Fusion Spark is a celebration of cross-culture experience, between Hong Kong and the globe.

I was born and raised in Hong Kong until I moved to America for love to Minnesota. After learning how to integrate into America (like driving, attaining citizenship, improving my English, getting a master degree etc...all the "fun" stuff to become fully "functional" in a new country), I got an amazing job offer to move to Maui, Hawaii to sell real estate. It was a great opportunity to relocate to the paradise and escape the brutal cold in Minnesota so why not.

I started my own photography business in Maui. I was doing architectural photography, in and out 10 properties a week creating those Airbnb photos for million dollars vacation homes. There I found my heart came alive again when I held my camera and be creative with my lens.

During our time in Maui, I missed Hong Kong food so badly I started baking egg tarts, making homemade Har Gow, Char Siu, and Siu Yuk! If you ask me how I feel being away from Hong Kong, I would tell you I miss the food and the convenience so much.

Because I have been away, I treasure what Hong Kong has to offer even more. I realize how amazing it was to be able to grab some Siu Mai for just two three dollars within a block back in Hong Kong.

In 2023, we relocated back to Hong Kong. Wait...what? How did someone give up living Hawaii and move to Hong Kong? Yes, we did!  (Story to be told in my upcoming book!)

Hong Kong is such a unique place. It is such a unique city that one could truly appreciate after leaving and coming back.

There were many things I did not notice or appreciate before, but now I do when I return to Hong Kong.

However, since I become a "changed" person after living overseas, I suddenly understand why certain culture or "Hong Kong way of doing life" is difficult for foreigners to understand.

For example, it was hard for foreigner to comprehend why people share a booth in a restaurant due to lack of space. The first time my husband Daniel saw someone sat down opposite to him, he thought that Hong Kong person wanted to have a chat with him so he sat next to him. But it was just for functional purpose to share tables with someone in Hong Kong.

It was hard for foreigners to know how to get off the red mini-bus. It was challenging to order a specific dish at a Cha Chaan Teng (local dinner) that does not offer English menu. A lot of the Hong Kong food look very interesting to foreigners and they are quite intrigued to try, but without proper explanation of what it is, they could be very skeptical to try it.

I found myself often filling in the gap between foreigners and local Hong Kong people. I understand why a Hong Kong person does not understand what a Gwei Lo is looking for and why a Gwei Lo does not understand certain Hong Kong behaviors and thought pattern.

This is why I created Fusion Spark. It is to bridge the gap between Hong Kong and the broader world. Hong Kong culture is unique and fun, yet sometimes it requires education and further explanation for the rest of the world to comprehend. At the same time, it is a creative outlet for me to express my love for the things I love about Hong Kong.

I hope through the fusion of cultures and people, we can spark some fun and celebrate Hong Kong, far or near.

Thanks for reading and stopping by. If you find something you can resonate or think it could be a perfect gift for someone else, it will bring me so much joy as it has accomplished the goals of my little creation.
